Foundations for Regional Development Policy Strengthened

Pyongyang, September 8 (KCNA) -- South Hamgyong Province of the DPRK is consolidating the material and technical foundations for regional economic development and improvement of the people's living standards.

The province has created a large area of Evodia daniellii Benn forests and expanded the cultivation area of sugar crops such as sweet potato and sugar cane by 1.2 times, as compared to the planned.

By realigning the scattered raw materials bases and making comprehensive use of them to suit the conditions of cultivation, it dynamically conducted a campaign for putting raw materials production on a highly intensive footing and raising the soil fertility.

It has boosted the production at offshore farms by dint of advanced science and technology. It is now focusing on building scallop breeding grounds with a total area of over 10 hectares under a stepwise annual plan.

This year alone, it has created over 30 hectares of Acer truncatum forests and cultivated them well. And it concentrates on building new raw materials bases and creating oil-bearing tree forests and other forests of high economic value. -0-
