Press Statement of DPRK Permanent Mission at UN

Pyongyang, November 5 (KCNA) -- The Permanent Mission of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea at the UN made public the following press statement on November 4:

The EU submitted again a "draft resolution" flagrantly distorting the human rights policy and situation of the DPRK to the Third Committee of the 81st Session of the UN General Assembly.

Such a "human rights resolution" farce, staged annually by the EU against the DPRK for 20-odd years, is a politically-motivated provocation, prompted by the sinister intention to paint a black picture of our dignified state under the spurious signboard of "human rights protection" and undermine our ideology and social system.

The Permanent Mission of the DPRK at the UN vehemently denounces and rejects the "draft resolution" as an illegal, conspiratorial and confrontational anti-DPRK document utterly going against the UN Charter that stipulated the respect for sovereignty and non-interference in internal affairs of other countries.

Human rights are by no means a monopoly of the West and no one gave the EU any authority to size up the human rights situations of other countries by a double standard.

Now the international community focuses on the human rights abuses, mass demonstrations and violence simultaneously escalating in European countries that have always found fault with other countries, styling themselves as "human rights champions".

In cities across Europe, from Paris to Brussels where the EU is headquartered, streets are filled with demonstrators from all walks of life demanding such elementary rights as the rights to existence, labour and education, and the realization of social justice. Peaceable demonstrators fall victim to indiscriminate police violence and arrests and even young middle school students have become targets of tear gas and water cannon for they call for improved education.

Such chaos prevailing in European countries is a human rights crisis and political crisis brought by their twisted "human rights standard" and Western-style value concepts, and it clearly shows what an absurd and hypocritical assertion they have made about "human rights".

Such European countries are taking issue with the human rights situation of others although they should stand trial for human rights abuses. This is, indeed, a tragicomic political cartoon.

The EU had better mind its own business, instead of hyping up the non-existent "human rights issues" of far-flung sovereign states, ignorant of where they are standing.

The human rights system and situation of a country should be appreciated by its people rather than the outside forces harboring hostility.

In the DPRK, guided by the people-first political idea, the state policy and efforts are ceaselessly promoted to protect the socio-political rights of all citizens and improve their material and cultural wellbeing, and its people are increasingly satisfied with their human rights.

No such "human rights" farce of the European countries, which desperately stoke confusion between right and wrong out of their inveterate prejudice and evil mindset toward the DPRK, can ever prevent the international community from giving fair voice about our state's social system.

The DPRK will never tolerate any hostile forces' attempt to infringe upon the peaceful life and rights of its people but fully discharge its responsibility for safeguarding their dignity, rights and interests. -0-
