Efforts Made to Encourage Paddy-field Fish Breeding

Pyongyang, September 4 (KCNA) -- Teachers and researchers of Pyongyang University of Education No. 1 strive to implement the policy of the Workers' Party of Korea on encouraging paddy-field fish breeding.

The university formed a research team with competent members to put the paddy-field fish breeding on a scientific and IT basis, intensified technical guidance and took measures for providing conditions while regularly holding a scientific discussion.

The research team bred catfish of pure line race to raise its productivity more than 1.3 times as compared with ordinary catfish.

It solved the technical problems arising in breeding catfish fries and opened up a prospect for producing tens of tons of catfish per hectare and increasing rice yields.

It manufactured devices for accurately measuring the water temperature on fish breeding fields and established a real-time monitoring system for the growth environment of fish and paddy rice, thus taking a great step forward in putting the paddy-field fish breeding on an IT basis.

The catfish of pure line race won a sci-tech success registration certificate and an introduction certificate and took the first place at the 38th National Festival of Science and Technology. It is now popular among many farms including the Samjigang Farm in Jaeryong County. -0-
