DPRK Scientists Succeed in Applying Cold-bed Rice Seedlings to Highly-saline Paddy Fields

Pyongyang, September 21 (KCNA) -- Scientists at the Onchon Branch of the Rice Research Institute of the Academy of Agricultural Sciences of the DPRK have become the national pioneers in introducing the method of raising nutrient cold-bed rice seedlings into highly-saline rice fields in reclaimed tidelands, according to Rodong Sinmun.

This will help save manpower and farming materials and boost the per-hectare yield, thus opening up another bright prospect of contributing to attaining the goal of grain production.

Now rice grows very well in all the paddy fields of the reclaimed tidelands. An increase of more than one ton per hectare is estimated as compared with last year. -0-
