Pyongyang, April 30 (KCNA) -- Pak Thae Song, member of the Presidium of the Political Bureau of the Central Committee of the Workers' Party of Korea and premier of the Cabinet of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea, made a field survey of farms in South Phyongan Province and North and South Hwanghae provinces.
He learned in detail about the growth of winter wheat and barley, and discussed measures for minimizing the drought damage at farms in Mundok, Phyongwon and Sukchon counties of South Phyongan Province and Sinchon, Thaethan, Ongjin, Paechon, Kangryong and Pyoksong counties of South Hwanghae Province and Phyongsan, Singye and Suan counties of North Hwanghae Province.
He called upon officials and agricultural workers to draw up workable plans and unyieldingly carry them out, bearing in mind that only when this year's severe drought is surmounted, can the guarantee be provided to reap a good harvest of crops including the first crops.
He also called for finding all the water resources and making effective use of them and reinforcing and perfecting the irrigation systems and, at the same time, mobilizing all the watering means and equipment, including motors, sprinklers and small water pumps. And he underlined the need to actively introduce scientific farming methods, including spraying various kinds of nutrient adjuvants and growth regulators as required by technical regulations, so as to ensure the safe growth of crops.
Learning in detail about the preparations for rice farming, the premier referred to the issue of steadily expanding the areas under rice seedling cultivation, the issue of decisively increasing the proportion of mechanization in rice-transplanting and the issue of pushing ahead with various farm works according to foresighted plans.
Earlier, the premier visited the fifth stage-construction site in the Hwasong area to discuss the issue of correctly carrying out the projects according to schedules on the principle of giving priority to improving quality and the issue of making the relevant sectors and units provide equipment and materials needed for the construction in time, and took the relevant measures. -0-
