Progress Made in Building up Foundation for Development of Fisheries

Pyongyang, June 5 (KCNA) -- The fishery sector of the DPRK is pushing ahead with the work to build up the foundation for development of the fishing industry.

The Ministry of Fisheries set right sites for breeding sea cucumbers and mussels and has stepped up the work to provide conditions favorable to ecology. It has also pushed ahead with the work to create breeding grounds in a scientific way.

Various units of the fishery sector have directed efforts to the work to secure breed sea cucumbers and put collection of eggs and breeding of the young on a sci-tech basis.

Most of seafood production units in the east and west coastal areas introduced mixed culture method in mussel farming to improve the ecological environment of the water zone and increase the production.

New fish farms and offices have been built or under construction.

Each province, city and county, too, have made progress in the project for building modern fish farming bases and expanding the capacity of existing ones. -0-
