Farmers' Opinions Are Important

At early dawn of one day in May 1999, Chairman Kim Jong Il visited a cooperative farm (at that time) in Anbyon County, Kangwon Province, the DPRK.

After looking at various types of tractors lining on the edge of a field of the farm, he told drivers to start the engines and learned about the speed, radius of rotation, performance and mechanism of each tractor.

Seeing a Chollima tractor, in which our workers increased the horsepower by their own efforts, the Chairman said with pleasure that it was great and they had managed to make it although many things were not available and there were many things in short supply and at difficult time.

Watching the operation of tractors, he asked all the officials if farmers saw the tractors and to which one they prefer.

After hearing their answers, the Chairman specially stressed that farmers' opinions were important because they best know about farming and would handle machines.

His teachings carried his intention that farmers had the absolute authority to decide to make any type of tractors. -0-
